The Harpoon Users Database FAQ The Harpoon Users Database is designed so that all scenarios that have been written, except SDB scenarios, can run with any version of Harpoon II on any machine including the Macintosh. You download the hud.zip file and unzip it. Then replace the files in the database subdirectory that is located under the harpoon II directory on your hard drive with the unziped files. This will allow you to have the latest database available that includes many user designed platforms and lots of error corrections. You may find that some of the older scenarios will not run and give you an "annex" error. If this happens or a platform or weapon does not work correctly you will have to rebuild the scenario using the scenario editor. To rebuild the scenario, load the scenairo into the scenario editor and go to the edit menu on the top of the screen. Select units from the edit menu and then select rebuild all. After the editor is done rebuilding the scenairo save it and quit the editor. You may now go to Harpoon II and play the scenario that you just saved and you will know have all the new platforms and corrections available in the scenario. It is recommended that you update your Harpoon II game to the Admirals Edition. You will find this update on the same page as this FAQ is located. If you do not update your game, DO NOT try and look at the platforms while playing the game. The common database uses the *.res files that come with the update to provide text descriptions and pictures of the platforms. If you try and look at the platforms while in the game, if it has not been updated, it will not be able to find them in the *.res files and the game will CRASH. The game can be played with the common database with out the AE update, Macintosh people are doing it, with no problems as long as you do not try and look at the database. If you want to play SDB created scenarios you will still have to create the SDB directory. Use the editor to create the SDB database before playing the scenario or it will not run correctly if at all . If the scenario was created so that it must use the SDB directory you must create the directory and associated files with the Platform Editor or the scenario will NOT run correctly. If you try and run the SDB scenario in the common database platforms will not be in the right place, you might wind up with Mig-29’s on the Arapaho or some other ridiculous setup. There is also the possibility that the game may crash with the famous “Annex Not Found” error. If you find any problems let me know so we can include them in this FAQ. Saul H.
