Soviet Strike on US CVBG: Decoy and Attack
Target: US CVBG.
Strikers: Soviet Aircraft.
Objective: To get a good strike in on a US Battle group.
Right, I have narrowed down where the US Battle group is to a 100 mile uncertainty circle, I know they have fighters up (ESM Hits) and want to get my missiles to target without too much attrition by the US Aircraft on either my missiles or A/C.
You need to imagine this: USCVBG is 600 mile due west of my base. It has the usual offenders up -- ASW Helos, Fighters and an AWACS.
Right, it's now Red "Baby Seal" time. I set a CAP 300 mile WNW of my position (ENE of the CVBG). I put about 4-6 groups of 4 fighters and a Jammer, with replacements en-route to this spot. I have the Strike running behind, offset and parallel to the Fighters. Out front, as my Fighters are arriving on station, I have recon assets -- as many as I can afford, Bears or the like -- in line astern heading in at lo-alt, radar off. As I guess the Bear is in range, I climb and illuminate. The Carrier's fighters will now start to close in. Turn the Bear north and run it behind the CAP. The Fighters have the Bear targeted and will be dragged right into my CAP as they close in on the Bear for a kill. I then climb the next Bear and illuminate and run north again -- drags the next lot of fighters away. After several goes at this and having dragged all or most of the US fighters out of position, I will pop up my Backfires and launch. This gives the missiles a clear run to the target with no attrition due to aircraft.
It's purely a H2 Anti-AI tactic. No human would fall for such a hoary old scam. But it works great against the AI.
